"This class makes my child smile; I'm sold! As a parent, it's nice to be a part of this class because the activities are done with everyone truly together; a nice change coming out of my workday." Spence K.
"I had heard about Amy and her special needs music classes for a couple of years, and I couldn't wait for my son, Casey, to get involved. He is now 4 and we have been in the class for about a month. He LOVES it! I was surprised to see how much therapy-type activity she incorporated in a non-therapy class. she includes oral-motor exercises, balance, fine motor skills, and much more!!! The kids have no idea and are having a blast!! Thanks Amy!!" Clare Brick, Dearborn, MI

Welcome to Exceptional Music! Exceptional Music classes are appropriate for all children ages 2-9, and are designed specifically for children with special needs. This music and movement program is designed for children with expressive or receptive language delays, children with autism spectrum disorder, cognitive impairments, motor delays, attention difficulties and children with sensory needs. The program aims to provide a comfortable class environment where everyone can thrive. The music is a combination of commonly known childhood songs, as well as original works created to address a specific goal. A parent or caregiver is required to accompany child/children to class. All children in attendance must be registered for class to maintain class size and provide an optimal learning experience.
What inspired Exceptional Music? Amy has always enjoyed teaching students of all abilities and is patient, yet persistent, in working to accommodate all types of learners. It was the experience teaching students with special needs that inspired the creation of the Exceptional Music group classes. During the music lessons with her students, she was able to witness the power of using music to inspire language improvement, motor skill development, focus, and confidence.* There is an abundance of research to support the use of music to boost the child’s ability to learn and retain information. Amy began to create her own music to address specific goals with her students. Amy is collaborating with Katie Shirk; a well known special education consultant, presenter, and educator. Katie’s extensive experience in the field of special education provides the research base necessary to ensure that the program will be a unique music experience which aims to unlock the potential of every child.
*Exceptional Music classes are recreational and are not intended as a replacement for therapies recommended by medical or education professionals.

Music Research: Music Training Linked to Enhanced Verbal Skills Musicians use all of their senses to practice and perform a musical piece. They watch other musicians, read lips, and feel, hear, and perform music, thus, engaging multi-sensory skills. As it turns out, the brain’s alteration from the multi-sensory process of music training enhances the same communication skills needed for speaking and reading.
